Today I was blessed enough to get meet up with the Junkie Radio guys and Stephen Bonner at the Mandalay Bay for MMAJunkie Radio. It was a great experience and I had a blast.

My Fight Result: Muay Thai and Boxing Amateur Exhibition Fights

Match Type: Boxing Exhibition

Opponent: Ryan Couture

Location: Xtreme Couture

Rules: 3 two minute rounds and hands only.

I went into last night expecting to have a Muay Thai fight but because of changes in the card I was moved to the main event against Ryan Couture who happens to be Randy Couture son. I have sparred with Ryan a few times in the past and each time he outworked me so I knew I was in for a battle. Randy was the ref for our match so you could imagine the pressure I was under but I was also inspired to be fighting in the same ring as the Coutures.

Round 1:  As soon as the bell rang I came out throwing a ton of punches, a little too many punches. I didn’t want to give Ryan a chance to work his magic on my face so I was very active. I jumped ahead of myself and I almost gassed out.  After the round was over my corner told be to relax a little and move more.

Round 2: My goal in the second round was to move more and attack the openings. Ryan took advantage of the fact that I was less active and landed a few good shots. He also did a really good job of cutting off the ring. The shots I landed this round were more accurate and the ones I landed in round one but I landed fewer of them.

Round 3: In the last round I was not as active as round one but I was more active than round two. There were some big shots landed by both Ryan and myself and all in all it was a great round.

When it was all said and done the night was very successful. All the fights were very entertaining and the sellout crowd at Xtreme Couture had a great time. The highlight of my night by far was getting my hand raised by Randy Couture which is something I will never forget

ADCC Regional Championships

I am continuing my goal of fighting as much as I can this year by entering the  Abu Dhab Combat Club Regional Championships here in Las Vegas. I will be the first person to tell you that my ground game is the weakest part of my skill set. Despite this, I will still compete in the ADCC because experience is king. I encourage all MMA fighters it take part in grappling, Muay Thai, and boxing matching. By doing this you will gain a new preservative of your skill set and you also get a change to work on the finer aspects of your game.

Satoshi Ishii Training at Xtreme Couture

I heard that Satoshi Ishii was training with Randy at Xtreme Couture a few weeks ago but I never had the chance to meet him, until today. I was very excited to meet Satoshi Ishii because he is a Judoka who won the gold medal in the Beijing Olympics. Sorry I don’t have much to say about our conversation because he does not speak much English but it was an honor to meet him.

UFC 100 Fan Expo

The UFC Fan Expo was a blast. There was a ton of people and a bunch of fighters. All the fighters who I meet for the first time were really nice especially Lenard Garcia.

Getting Ready for Combat

With UFC 100, Affliction Trilogy, and a ton of other smaller promotions coming up in July and the beginning of August, many fighters at Xtreme Couture are working hard. Check Vitor Belfort, Jay Glazer, and some other guys who I have no clue who they are getting ready for action.

Tuff-N-Uff First All Female Event

Tuff-N-Uff is by far the best amateur MMA promotion in Las Vegas. If you are going to be in Vegas on July 10th come support Xtreme Couture fighter Tasha Marzolla and check out the first ever all female MMA show ever held in Las Vegas.

UFC 100 Predictions

Brock Lesnar (3-1) vs. Frank Mir (12-3)

This will be the second time these two meet with Frank winning the interim heavyweight championship title the first go around. Brock, despite being the bigger of the two still does not have the cage experience to pull this one off. I got Frank Mir via 2nd round submission.

Georges St. Pierre (18-2) vs. Thiago “The Pit Bull” Alves (22-4)

In the co-main event Georges St. Pierre is taking on Thiago Alves in what is for sure going to be a action packed fight. Despite being the more aggressive striker of the two, Thiago is still not as well rounded as the champ. I got St. Pierre via split decision.

Dan Henderson (24-7) vs. Michael Bisping (18-1)

This match is to determine which one of the coaches from The Ultimate Fighter Season 9 will be victorious in the cage. Michael Bisping has never been finished in a fight but Hollywood Dan Henderson is a seasoned veteran who has superior grappling and wrestling. I got Dan Henderson via split decision.

Jon Fitch (18-3) vs. Paulo Thiago (11-0)

Fitch up until recently held the record for most consecutive wins in the Octagon and is the more experienced of the two. Paulo Thiago is coming off a upset win over Josh Koscheck. I think Paulo is a good up and coming prospect  but they are throwing him to the wolves by giving him Fitch at this point in his career. I got Jon Fitch via second round TKO

Yoshihiro Akiyama (12-1) vs. Alan Belcher (13-4)

One word “Sexyama”. Yoshihiro Akiyama via second round submission.
